Sheep fix

Added a plugin that grows a sheep's coat back after a while. This is just a temporary fix until 1.0.1, which promises to fix the issue anyway.

Review excerpt: For great justice

I found this excerpt from a review very helpful for realizing some of the new potential for Minecraft 1.0. :
An exciting part of the game is enchanting items: experience earned through combat can be spent adding attributes to any weapon or piece of armor by using an enchantment table (which requires both diamonds and obsidian to build, both rare materials located deep in the ground, unfortunately) surrounded by bookshelves. For example, a diamond sword can be enchanted with smite (extra damage to zombies and skeletons) and knockback, or you can create a metal shovel with increased durability. Using more points will result in a more powerful enchantment, so you’ll have to decide whether to save up for more powerful attributes. This gives the player a reason to kill enemies (instead of simply avoiding them every night), since you use the experience to better your inventory. You can also brew potions to restore health, increase attacks, or move faster (plus negative effects you can throw at enemies). Obsidian can be used to enter The Nether, a fire world with unique enemies and blocks that are required to reach The End of the game. While there is a conclusion to Minecraft, exploring the randomly generated terrain, collecting blocks, making buildings, crafting and enchanting items, and fighting enemies will keep most people busy for quite a long time.

I am excite.

Remember: I can move any structures from the old server that you may want. The advantage of having a small group server.

PSA - New World

After more exploration it is apparent that any newly discovered terrain is about 90% water. And in order to see the new biomes and features correctly we have to start a new world, so that's what I'm gonna do. New Server's gonna be fairly basic. 1 home, no warp points, no econ. I want to encourage public transportation systems and actual Nether warps. Minecraft 1.0 has a lot going for it with enchanting and potion making and animal farming. I don't think we need to add anything to it. I can move structures over if there are any you really want to carry over onto the new map. I know a lot of you have a lot of things you worked hard on that you don't want to lose. I also think that starting fresh is one of the funnest things about Minecraft. I'll do my best on those requests. (Mason's megaman is coming with me) Gimme a day or two to work out the kinks on the new world. I'm pretty excited about it.

Newly Generated Terrain and the Town of Clarkwater

In Slamworld, I did some exploring to generate new chunks. I passed through the largest ocean I've ever seen in Minecraft. On the other side was the thickest forest I've ever seen in Minecraft. I walked across an entire land mass on treetops. After that I discovered a new town with some inhabitants! I'm naming this town "Clarkwater" (I actually found a cool random town name generator - perfect for randomly generated towns) and I'm setting a warp there for anyone wanting to explore newly generated terrain.

EDIT: Also, generated a new Nether world.

Minecraft 1.0

Running the latest Bukkit. Scubakit is broke. Nothing else seems to be.

Minecraft 1.0

Minecraft is officially out of beta. The server will stay up as 1.8.1 until the new RB of bukkit is release (or when I can get around to it) Nobody's really been on I realize, but the server has stayed up for about 98 percent of the time.

Stay tuned for some possible announcements for what I may want to do next with our little group.

In the meantime, have fun with whatever else you're doing... coughSkyrimcough

Back to Basics (Fairly Big Change)

I'm excited to announce that the server is going back to the basics. There are a number of reasons why I chose to do this, but mostly to ease the cross-over into future updates to the game itself. Some of the changes in Beta 1.9 alone will make a few of our plugins obsolete. Also, Tito's Server was an inspiration (insofacto, I inspired 'ol Tito to start a server back in the day (4 months ago?).

Everything is still very familiar, but I'm taking a lot of the luxuries away that you've all gotten used to for the more pure Minecraft environment that I've always wanted this server to represent.

The main things I've kept are of course warping and money and such, but the main things you'll miss are the ability to vote for the time of day and the weather, keeping your inventory when you die (you can still /back on death, and there is no economical penalty for dying) and a few other things I can't remember. I'm sure you'll remind me.

I will no longer be adding extraneously game-changing plugins. I do like the money aspects, however.

Speaking of that, you no longer get paid to mine (most people didn't even know this was happening) and there will no longer be custom drops from enemies. You'll need to make money by selling what you mine or by a reward system (something I'm working on, basically getting rewarded for fantastic structures, and of course player of the month).

There may be some permissions changes in the near future, but right now I think it's fairly solid. Go ahead and check out your /help pages to see whats available. There a few extra ones in there. All of the economy is now integrated through the Essentials plugin right now for simplicity's sake, so you'll be exclusively using the /bal or /balance to see how much you have.

Your homes and warps are the same and safe.

I assume this isn't as big of a deal as some of you may make it out to be. The server has been really dead. I know it's a busy time of year for both schoolwork and awesome other games out there hitting the shelves. Just remember, you'll always have a home on the Manatee Server.

TL:DR : fugghettaboutit.

Server will be down for a bit. Looking into some updates and maybe changing some settings.

Chrome Plugin of the Day (Not a thing)

This is actually a pretty awesome Google Chrome plugin that puts instant access to Minecraft recipes and searching the Wiki within you browser. It's supernice, and super nerdy.

Just thought I'd share.

Photos from Ironforge!

Well I figured I would start posting some minetography to the blog. Here are some photos from Ironforge in Slamworld! (/warp ironforge)

Most of this is the work of users nickvinc and guarddonkey.

This one is my work in progress at the moment: A giant underground library.

Gettin' Paid While Minin'

I kinda like the idea of finding money while mining.

So now you get paid while mining. It's on a chance basis. Here's the set I've laid out for our server. The "chance" is out of 100:

   STONE:
        - drop: MONEY
          quantity: 1-3
          chance: 2
    DIRT:
        - drop: MONEY
          quantity: 1-2
          chance: 1
    GRAVEL:
        - drop: MONEY
          quantity: 1-3
          chance: 1
    SAND:
        - drop: MONEY
          quantity: 1-2
          chance: 1
    COAL_ORE:
        - drop: MONEY
          quantity: 2-3
          chance: 5
    IRON_ORE:
        - drop: MONEY
          quantity: 3-4
          chance: 10
    GOLD_ORE:
        - drop: MONEY
          quantity: 4-5
          chance: 20
    DIAMOND_ORE:
        - drop: MONEY
          quantity: 5-10
          chance: 30

So have fun making a little extra cash! This stuff is always subject to change on a whim of mine. It's not really "necessary", but I have fun messing with the values.

EDIT: also forgot to mention that everyone should have the /bal lookup now for faster lookup of your balance. Since I didn't want the console to spam you constantly every time you got paid, I took the message off. So you get paid "silently". To quickly check your balance, use /bal. (/money is still there as well)

Some Nerd News related to Minecraft

So, the Scrolls case is going to court. Dumb. http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/09/27/mojang-vs-bethesda-scrolls-battle-heading-to-court/

In fun news, there will be item repairing and animal breeding in 1.9! The pre-release of 1.9 comes out this week.  http://twitter.com/#!/notch

Other Drops

Been playing around with the OtherDrops plugin and quantities. Trying out the "dropping money" mechanic of it.

Right now I have it to where breaking stone blocks has a 2 out of 100 chance of dropping 1 dollar.

Interesting, I know.

New Quantities in the AdminShop and Mob Drops info

Added some new quantities to the AdminShop.
Added buying and selling of Ender Pearls, since at the moment I'm unable to change what Enderman drop.
All mobs drop (with about a 60% chance) 1 gold ingot. This translates to roughly the same worth they had when they gave their killer currency. Ghasts drop, with a better chance, 1-3 diamond.
Also, this negates the problem with mobs giving their killer money when killed with a bow and arrow. Now they drop these items regardless of how they die. With a chance, of course.

Recommended Build

As of today, we are officially on the Recommended Build of Bukkit. And it's going to stay that way.

This version comes along with a word of warning too:

"Remember that if you are planning to create a new world for 1.8, that you will will most likely have to do so for 1.9 as well."

Well, lovely, right?

Server Updates - No Errors!

Today was the first day in quite a while that I started the server and there were 0 errors. Thanks Bukkit!

Also, finally got money working right. Had to update the ChestChops plugin to work with 1.8 and iConomy 6.

The way to check your balance is no longer "/bal", it is just "/money"

I got rid of the weird plugin that was showing what world you were in when you chat. It was too messy and spammy looking.

I re-instituted the plugin "OtherDrops" for fixing of breaking boats, bookshelves, glass blocks, and stairs.

We are almost back to normal again.

Now, if you ever see me post anything about not using the Recommended Build of Bukkit, or at least ones that are reportedly very stable, you can e-slap me.

I'll have the BigBrother plugin plugged in again soon, so I can rollback on specific areas of the map again. It's actually going to be called something else when it is updated. It's glitchy with 1.8, so I haven't reinstated it yet.

If anyone runs into anything weird, or if there is something that is bothering you, let me know, and I'll see what I can do.

STABLE! A few new things.

Alright everyone. I've finally gotten the server running STEADY. There was some horrible chunk corruption causing some horrible lag for everyone. I've updated a number of things. We are on a new economy system, but I was able to save how much money each of you have, so no worries there. I had to rollback the main world (called just "world") back a few days. If any of you have done a lot of work in the past few days on the main world, then let me know, and we can get together and copy/paste it into the rolled back world. I still have that backup. We now how the ability to set multiple homes. To do this, the command is "/sethome (name)" whenever you type /home from now on it will bring up a list of your homes. Also, vote works again.
So a few plugins updated an don't work anymore. Sad, I know. The only one you'll probably notice is the 'vote' plugin. Oye, never EVER again with the dev builds of bukkit. From now on, if there's a big update to Minecraft, we're staying in the Recommended Build until the cows come home (ie, the new RB)

We're back

Server may be down...

Looks like I can't connect from work right now. I'm guessing the power flickered at my house with all the lightning.

Sorry folks! We'll be back up in a bit. Maybe an hour or so.

I will get a battery backup for my computer soon so we won't have this issue.

Updated... again

We have to be getting close the Recommended Buid of Bukkit. I'm excited!

The door and trapdoor glitches should be... better now. And I think there was a chest fix too. Word!

Dynamic Map of the Server

http://manateeserver.servebeer.com:8123/

here you will find our real time map!

You can also find the link in the sidebar ---->

We're back

But who knows for how long...

EDIT: Looks to be fairly stable. Lets have fun.
Server is currently down. Build is just too unstable. I will know for the future to go ahead and just wait for the recommended build of bukkit every time before instituting it. Because now... we may need to be down until that build comes out.
Added link to the Minecraft ID list tool over there -->

Slamworld and some useful links

The new world for our server is called "Slamworld".

I've set up the warp - to enter the new 1.8 world, use the command: "/warp slamworld"

Remember that we're still running the experimental version of Bukkit for 1.8 support, so there are still a lot of bugs, but they are slowly weeding them out.

If you're interested, you can keep abreast of how the new Recommended Build of Bukkit is coming along by following this link: http://ci.bukkit.org/job/dev-CraftBukkit/changes

That shows you step by step updates of what's been fixed so far.

You can also follow bukkit updates on Twitter like I do @Craftbukkit

For updates on Minecraft itself, right down to the moment changes are made, follow the whole Mojang Team through this link: http://twitter.com/#!/MinecraftImages/mojang-team

Notices

A few notices for us, the people who insist on using experimental bukkit builds:

Minecraft updated today to 1.8.1 and took out the horrible "over-filling a chest gives you the dirt-screen kick" bug. So that wasn't bukkits fault after all.

I've taken out the Creeper Heal plugin for stability's sake. It's broken with 1.8. At least until the plugin itself is updated.
